Dyslexia Corner was started September 2017 by parents of a struggling reader. They spent Kindergarten and First grade questioning teachers and counselors about his reading and writing skills. When their son entered Second grade, it became obvious that his technique of memorization would no longer suffice. They sought help from a private speech therapist/dyslexia specialist. After confirming his diagnosis of dyslexia, their struggle really began.
With diagnosis confirmed, they sought therapies to help with their son's reading foundation and fluency. They were either turned away due to full patients loads, added to a never ending waiting list, or given an astronomical price for therapy.
Help in school was not an option. As with many dyslexia students, his IQ was normal so he did not qualify for any reading assistance.
The only reliable option for them was to hire a private tutor and purchase their own dyslexia specific reading curriculum.
Knowing they were not alone and that many families faced the same challenges, Dyslexia Corner was established as a non-profit in 2018.
